high schools, a special education program and a vocational
school, and four private schools, Selma and Dallas County can
offer you, your spouse and children a great education. In
addition, we have college preparatory and vocational programs as
well as a full complement of extracurricular activities and
athletics.
Selma is also home to Wallace Community College,
Concordia College, and Selma University. Within a 100-mile radius
are 15 four-year colleges and universities offering a full range
of post-secondary degrees.

Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS) is a member institution of the Alabama College System, the largest higher education system in Alabama. WCCS is a state-funded, open-door, full-service, public community college.
The mission of the college is to provide high-quality educational opportunities and services that are responsive to individual, community and state needs. In order to accomplish this mission, WCCS provides collegiate arts and sciences programs at the freshman and sophomore levels, occupational programs, business and industry training, student services and activities and continuing education and personal enrichment opportunities.
Concordia CollegeConcordia College, operated by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Concordia College has positioned itself to meet the educational and spiritual needs of its students into the twenty-first century. Concordia's current record-setting enrollment includes students from 17 states and four foreign countries. This 73-year-old Christian institution of higher learning was recently elevated from a two-year college to a four-year college by adding a four-year early childhood and elementary education program and, most recently, a general business program.
Selma University is one of the oldest and most distinguished
black institutions of higher education in the nation. Founded in
1878, the university has trained several thousand Baptist
ministers
through its School of Theology, and over 3,000 graduates in
liberal arts, business administration, sciences, mathematics and
computer sciences. Established on Christian principles and
values, Selma University is committed to the development and
implementation of quality programs of study. Dedicated to
fostering the personal, spiritual and intellectual development of
students, the school fulfills its mission by providing students
with academic programs in a personalized environment, providing
liberal arts curricula which prepare students to assume
leadership roles in society and providing programs of study
designed to produce Christian leaders in the pastorate, mission
field, social service and education.
Vaughan Regional Medical Center, owned by LifePoint Hospitals, Inc., provides medical care for Selma and West Central Alabama. The Medical Center Parkway campus offers 214 acute care beds and is staffed by 727 medical professionals with an annual payroll exceeding $10 million. UAB's Selma Family Medicine Center recently moved into a new state-of-the-art building adjacent to the facility.

The Dallas County area is home to many of the finest medical professionals in the health care field; skilled support personnel find unique opportunities for advancement in the Selma community, often becoming heads of departments in a short amount of time. Selma is home to the state's only community-based residency program for family physicians.
The Selma Family Medicine Center is a family
practice residency program affiliated with the University of
Alabama's School of Medicine. Its physicians provide continuous
and comprehensive primary care for the entire family. Eight
teaching faculty, 12 resident physicians, and the Center's
ancillary staff provide the medical services rendered at the
Family Medicine Center.
We have three major nursing care centers, two assisted living facilities, four home health care centers, a comprehensive rehabilitation facility, and a mental health center. Also available is Birminghams world-renowned University of Alabama Medical Center and teaching facility which is just a 90 minute drive from Selma.
